The anaesthetic staff of the Jean Causse Ear Clinic consists of 5 anaesthetic doctors who work full time. Pierre Sobraques MD, Stéphane Joos MD, Bernard Loubet MD, Martine Michat MD and Pertti Pesonen MD. There are two aims :
Anaesthesia consultation All patients are invited to meet the anaesthesist
before the operation. This consultation aims at valuing the clinical
state of the patient, to forecast necessary examinations and to
choose the better fitted technique. To reduce preoperative anxiety,
we also explain the different stages of anaesthesia. The day before
the operation, the anaesthesist checks if everything is ready
and prescribes the premedication. Although it is not always possible
because of arrangement reasons, everything is done for the patient
to be seen and anaesthetized by the same anaesthesist. The anaesthetic problems generated by this surgery
are numerous because it concerns the children as well as the adults.
Many operations are made by endoscopic way. In this case, cooperation
and anticipation within the surgical-anaesthetic staff of the
Jean Causse Ear Clinic are two essential acquired knowledge. The middle ear surgery made with microscope and
video-control needs very particular requirements regarding anaesthesia.
To reduce bleeding but also the operative time , to allow a precise
surgical action, these operations are performed under controlled
hypotension. In this case and since many years, the Jean Causse
Ear clinic has acquired a great experience. About 15 operations
of this kind are performed. Most of these operations are performed under
local anaesthesia and as far as possible, they are performed within
the ambulatory surgery department. Anaesthesia for plastic surgery is performed
by two members of the anaesthetic staff. All patients receive
particularly personalized care. The local anaesthetic techniques
are very often used to improve the comfort of patients. This kind of surgery is more and more performed
in the clinic. It means the arrival of the patient in the clinic
and his comming back to his home on the same day. The use of short
new drugs allows a fast and comfortable waking after both a general
and local anaesthesia. The clinic onws an adequate surgical unity
for the performance of this kind of actions. The ambulatory surgery
essentially concerns the ENT cases for children, the ophthalmologic
surgery, the hand surgery and some cases of plastic surgery. We strongly insist on the quality of environment
and comfort for children. An adequate premedication, a cheerful
decoration, a funny and progressive induction by respiratory ways
are comforting elements. The postoperative ache treatment is one of our main concern. The used strategy refers to the concept of preventive analgesia as well as local anaesthesia techniques as far as possible. The results are regularly analysed and readapted with the help of questionnaires and investigations done from patients
